Match Review FC Goa V/S Punjab FC [11/03/24]

The showdown between Punjab FC and FC Goa unfolded with palpable intensity. The game promised a fascinating and captivating battle between contrasting styles and tactics.

FCGoa’s head coach Manolo Márquez had made 4 changes to the lineup bringing on Carl McHughRaynier Fernandes, Udanta and Brandon Fernandes.

Punjab FC’s head coach Staikos Vergetis had made 3 changes to his side bringing on Lhugdim, Melroy and Amarjit.

This is the 2nd time the two teams clash in the Indian Super League. The last time they met FC Goa won 1-0.

Punjab FC had used the formation 4-3-3 whereas FC Goa had followed the 4-2-3-1 pattern.

THE FIRST HALF

The first half started with high intensity as both teams fought for the win. The first chance for FC Goa began with a shot on target by  Raynier Fernandes.

Ravi stepped up into action frequently, saving long as well as close shots.

5 minutes into the match and FC Goa take the lead as Borja Herrera takes a corner curling the ball which goes straight to Carl McHugh having a powerful goal with just no mistake. Beautiful goal!!!

Minutes after the goal there was an appeal for a handball but it wasn’t given.

At the end of the first half, the stats showed that FC Goa had 11 attempts out of which 5 were on target whereas Punjab had 4 attempts out of which none were on target.

SECOND HALF

At the start of the second half Lhungdim (PFC) sees yellow.

The 54’ Wilmar Jordan Gil gives Punjab the equaliser.

Punjab FC made a substitution for Shabong bringing on Sahil Tavora.

The match gets even more exciting as L. Majcen hands the underdogs of the match, the lead.

T.A. Singh replaces Lhungdim and FC Goa makes 3 substitutions bringing Borges, Carlos Martínez and Boris.

Things got even more thrilling as FC Goa received a penalty for a foul on Boris. FC Goa equalised the scoreline as Noah scored the penalty.

Punjab saw a substitution by bringing in J. Meera.

3 minutes after coming on the pitch J. Meera had Punjab FC take the lead for the second time.

We saw 2 substitutions for FC Goa in the 80th minute, Brison replacing Brandon Fernandes and Yasir replacing Seriton.

Carlos Martinez equalised for Goa in the 72nd minute from a header assist by Noah Sadaoui and one can’t deny the perfect setup by Carl Mc Hugh. It was just splendid.

The scoreline is now 3­ -3.

The game saw 7 minutes of added time.

The match ended 3-3 giving both the teams only one point to take with them. Goa remains in the 4th position with 33 points while Punjab have climbed to the 7th position with 21 points.
