UCL Match Review Barcelona V/S PSG [17/04/2024]

PSG beat Barcelona to enter the semis.

Everything seemed in favour of Barcelona, from leading in the first leg of the quarter-final to the first goal of the night scored by Raphinha from a wonderful assist by Yamal.

But the happiness of the hosts didn’t last long.

The entire match took a 180-degree turn when Araujo was sent off in the 29th minute for a foul on Barcola leaving Barcelona to ten men with an hour to play ahead.

The decision taken was too harsh on Barcelona not deserving a red card, a yellow would be the answer.

The red card led to the confidence boost of PSG players.

The match escalated quickly after Dembele opened the score sheet for the visitors against his former team.

The first half ended with an aggregated score of 4-3

PSG continued to command the game in the second half

Barcelona tried their best to control the match one man down, but it wasn’t enough, Vitinhas goal in the 54th minute levelled the game.

For FC Barcelona, chances were wasted, and mistakes were made.

What was worse?

Barcelona conceded a penalty in the 61st minute after Cancelo made a foul. Mbappe scored from the penalty spot giving the visitors their lead. No mistakes were made in scoring that.

Xavi, furious at the refereeing mistakes, had a word with the fourth official that led to straight two red cards shown, to Xavi and Barcelona’s goalkeeping coach de la Fuente.

Gundogan was fouled in the penalty area but there was no penalty given.

Mbappe wasn’t stopping with one goal, just before the 90th minute he made sure to score and of course, he did.

A close-range shot, enough to end the hopes and dreams of the Blaugranas.

The match ended on an aggregated score of 6-4 as Paris Saint-Germain marched on to the semis.
